Alex Justin "Bert" Salgado

Alex Justin “Bert” Salgado, age 58, of Calumet City, IL, suddenly, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023.  Dear brother of Claudio, Agustin (Josefina), Julia, Tina, Juan (Lorna), Rob, Guillermina, Arturo Jr. (Theresa), and the late Bonifacio (Cristina) Salgado.  Kind uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his loving parents Arturo and Sofia Salgado.

Bert was a truck driver for over 30 years, driving millions of safe miles throughout his career. He was always willing to help others that were in need. He would give the shirt off his back. He made friends wherever he went. He had that personality that made everyone wanted to be around him. He had a very big heart and an infectious smile.

Bert was always there to assist his siblings; he would often pick up his nieces and nephews taking them to and from school or taking them to soccer games. He treated them as if they were his own. He would always spoil the kids and take them to eat whatever they wanted.

He enjoyed grilling out especially at the family gatherings, sometimes spending hours at the grill. He wanted to make sure everyone had plenty to eat.  He was an avid sports fan and particularly loved watching the Chicago Bears and Cubs. Bert was an animal lover especially when it came to his dogs. His dogs were his babies.

His presence will be dearly missed, and we will never forget all the memories.

Memorial visitation Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Prayer service Monday, August 28, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. from Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN, to Jesus, Shepherd of Souls/St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 768 Lincoln Ave. Calumet City, IL, for a 10:00 a.m. Memorial Mass.  Inurnment Holy Cross Cemetery – Calumet City, IL.
