Anthony "Tony" Zona Sr.

Anthony “Tony” Zona Sr., age 101, of Steger, IL, passed away peacefully, April 16, 2023. Beloved husband of the late Kathleen Zona, nee Wetzel. Loving father of Terry (Susan) Zona, Tim Zona, and Anthony Zona Jr. Adoring grandfather of Terry (Jessica), Alexander (Abby), Tina (Jim), Toni, Raina, Cheyenne, Charles (Valerie), and Nick (Kim), great grandchildren Domenic, Carmine, Quentin, Estella, Lilliana, Violet, Jessica and Atlas. He was preceded in death by his three sisters and three brothers.

Anthony was a resident of Steger, IL for over 70 years. He was owner and president of Zona Corporation for over 40 years. He was in the US Army in WWII and was Stationed in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945. He achieved the rank of Staff Sgt and was wounded in the Battle for Okinawa. He served in the 96 ^th Deadeye Division as an infantryman.

He was awarded the Purple Heart American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Bronze Service Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal.

Anthony will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
