Audrey E. Rietveld

Audrey Elaine Rietveld, nee Veld, age 84, of Crete, Illinois, passed peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2023.  Beloved wife of Philip Rietveld.  Loving mother of four daughters—Lisa (Trilby White) Rietveld, Renee (John) Malm, Linda (Kevin) Van Drunen, and Jennifer Mack.  Grandmother to Jordan (Kerianne) Malm, Dane (Sydney) Malm, Noah (Morgan) Malm, Daniel VanDrunen, Elizabeth Van Drunen, Katherine Van Drunen, and Kate O’Brien.  Great Grandmother to Finn Malm, Mila Malm, and Margot Malm.  Preceded in death by sister Gay Louise (late Thomas) Hoekstra (D. 2022), mother Ruth Veld (D. 2007) and father Egbert Veld (D. 1980)

Audrey grew up in South Holland, Illinois, and attended Thornton High School and Hope College in Holland, Michigan.  She was a homemaker most of her life, enjoyed working at Donna’s clothing store in Bradley, Illinois, and later sold real estate.  She enjoyed traveling, annual trips to horse shows in Kentucky, and spending time at her condo in Florida with good friends and family.

Audrey loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren, loved dogs, was an avid reader, a Daily Cross Word puzzler, and enjoyed playing bridge.  She could do a puzzle in no time and was hard to beat at Scrabble.

A funeral service will be held Friday, February 24, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN, followed by a gathering time for friends and family immediately following the service.  Private interment at Oak Ridge Cemetery – Lansing, IL. Charitable donations may be given to Alzheimer’s Association ( www.alz.org ).
