Bernard "Jay" Mackey

Bernard J. “Jay” Mackey, age 86, of Dyer, IN, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Beloved husband of 65 years of Jacqueline Mackey, nee Stephenson. Loving father of Debbie (Russ) Mars, Patricia Mackey, Kari (Carl) Thomsen, and Kristin (John) Morzy. Cherished grandfather of Nicole (Jordan) Ryan, Ryan (Kristen) Mars, Katherine Morzy, Daniel Morzy, Caroline Morzy, Wesley Morzy, Henry Thomsen, Teagan Thomsen, Declan Mackey, Steven (Theresa) Morzy, and John Morzy. Great-grandfather of Peyton Mars, Brenna Ryan, Stetson Mars, Maria Morzy, and Sophia Morzy. Dear brother of the late James Mackey. Preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Patricia Mackey. Jay retired after more than 40 years of service from CSX Railroad. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

Visitation Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 2:30 at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN.
