Carlos Rios, age 23, of Posen, IL, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Loving son of Juan Carlos Ortega and the late Rierrma Rios. Dear brother of Alex, Stephanie, Zane, Janell, and Erick. Kind nephew of Raquel Rios, who was like his second mother. Dear uncle of Mason, Alexander, Kali, and Amelia (God daughter). Cherished godson/nephew of Ramon and Mary. Survived by many loving aunts cousins, and dear friends, especially best friends Kali and LaTaeya.

Carlos was raised in Harvey, lL and attended school in his hometown. His academic brilliance began to shine early as he was a standout student at Whittier Elementary and Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School, consistently earning top marks and the admiration of his teachers and peers. He attended Thornton Township High School, where he graduated third in his class—an achievement that spoke volumes about his work ethic, intelligence, and commitment to excellence. Carlos had a heart for helping others, a quality that shaped both his personal life and professional journey. From a young age, he showed a deep love for animals, which inspired him to pursue a veterinary degree at the prestigious Cornell University. He graduated from Cornell in 2024 with a Bachelor in Animal Science. But Carlos’s passion for caring didn’t stop there as he was in the process of pursing a nursing degree.

Carlos had a true zest for life. He found joy in the simple things—swimming on a sunny day, laughing with friends, and caring for his nieces and nephews like they were his own. He loved the magic of the movies, the excitement of meeting new people, and the importance of taking care of himself. Whether through acts of kindness or moments of fun, Carlos brought light and warmth to everyone around him with his witty banter.

Carlos found joy in bringing happiness to others and he was always willing to go the extra mile as he believed that if there wasn’t a way, he’d make one. Whether through his work with animals, his care for patients, or the simple everyday moments he shared with those around him, Carlos left a lasting impact that will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege to know him and he will be deeply missed.
