Charles V. “Smiley” Ballard, age 84, of Calumet City, IL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Beloved husband of Margaret A. “Midge” Ballard, nee Hart. Devoted father of Michelle (William) Nellett, Curtis (Sandee), late Craig, and the late Jeffrey Ballard. Proud grandfather of Dr. Kathryn (Dr. Michael) Halyko, Samantha, Kayla, Amanda, Rylee, Mary, and the late Kelsey. Dear brother of James (late Myra), late Fleet Jr. (late Elvira), late David (late Joyce) Ballard, and the late Barbara (late Richard) Lawson. Kind uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Fleet Sr. and Katherine Ballard. Visitation Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a funeral service to be held at 6:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home James E. Janusz Director, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN 46311 with Deacon Jim Renwick officiating. Private Cremation.
