Charles Henry Boender, age 87, of Highland, IN, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 with family by his side. He was born on October 11, 1930 to Lawrence and Cora Boender of Munster, IN. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mae (Eenigenburg) Boender and their three children, Calvin (Marla) Boender, Cynthia (Don) Trykall, and Susan (Joseph) Simmons, and six grandchildren: Joseph Simmons, Loren Boender, Tristan Simmons, Hannah Simmons, David Trykall and Caia Trykall. Preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Doug and Velda Boender.
“Chuck” was a graduate from Hammond Tech High School. He lived, worked and served his community and church in Munster and Highland, IN. A veteran in the army, he also served with the Volunteer Fire Department and was police commissioner in his earlier years for the community of Munster. His life’s work included being the President and co-owner of Stannard Power Equipment Company while finishing his business career as a consultant for Clark Dietz and Associate Engineering Company at age 65. Chuck was an active member of the Munster Christian Reformed Church, serving as deacon and elder. He was active in supporting the missionaries and pastors of the church. His passion for Christian education lead him to serve as President of Trinity Christian College Board, Illiana Christian High School Planning and Development, and Highland Christian elementary School Board. He was active in developing the Northwest Indiana Community, serving as President of the Calumet Area Planning Committee and active in the development of Briar Ridge Country Club.
Visitation Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral service Monday, October 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Ln. (Rt.30 & Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN 46311, with Rev. Herm Schutt officiating. Private burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery – Lansing, IL.
