Cherie Harriet (Scherzinger) Lorenzen, 74, most recently of Dyer, Indiana, passed after a long illness on November 16, 2018. She was a caring woman who loved her family deeply and made close friends throughout her life. Born on May 14, 1944, Cherie was the daughter of her beloved mother, Harriet, and father, Robert Scherzinger. She grew up on the South Side of Chicago and then Calumet City, Illinois with her two sisters, Roberta (Richards) and Gayle (Passo). Cherie married the love of her life, Donald (Don) Lorenzen, in 1963. Together they raised their son, Don, and daughter, Dawn (Aubert). She was a loving and passionate mother who spent every waking moment caring for her children. Cherie went back to school in the late 1970s, following her dream to become a nurse. She then cared for her patients at the University of Chicago Hospital for the next 27 years. Cherie follows her husband Don into eternal life just seven months after his passing. In addition to her son and daughter, she leaves behind four adoring grandchildren, Julia, Katherine, and Natalie Aubert, and Nicholas Lorenzen, along with her son-in-law, Patrick Aubert, and daughter-in-law, Kristen (Elliott) Lorenzen.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial mass at 11 a.m., both to be held at St. John the Evangelist Day Chapel, 9330 Wicker Avenue, St. John, Indiana (219.365.5678). Interment will take place after mass at approximately 12:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, 801 Michigan City Road, Calumet City, Illinois (708.862.5398).
