Clyde V. Colgrove, age 82, of Munster, formerly of Hammond, IN and Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 22, 2015. Devoted father of Richard, Jon (Janet), Paul, and David (Dorothy) Colgrove, and Susan (Darold) Previs. Proud grandfather of 13: Jennifer, Jimi, Jake, Alex, Cara, John, Madison, Allegra, Maggie, Tim, Nathan, Josie and Landon; great-grandfather of 3. Dear brother of Barbara (late Ronald) Snyder. Kind uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Gail and Helen Colgrove nee Newton and his former wife Margaret T. "Maggie" Colgrove nee Downey. Visitation Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral service Friday, February 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN 46311. Interment Elmwood Cemetery - Hammond, IN. Mr. Colgrove was a Korean War Army Veteran gaining the rank of Sergeant. Clyde attended Irving and Washington Elementary schools. Graduated from Hammond High School in 1950. Indiana University 1971. Northeastern Illinois University Cum Laude 1988. Attended University of Illinois ABD 1995. During his lifetime Clyde worked for Junior Toy Company, Standard Oil, Youngstown Sheet and Tube, AM Corporation, NCR Corporation, Philips Computers and Sperry Univac as Sales Systems Analyst. He taught later at Ivy Tech rising to the position of Director of Instruction. He retired from his educational career as Executive Director of Harry S. Truman College City Colleges of Chicago and Truman Technical Center. He was an active member of the Hammond Community serving at PTA President of Scott Middle School, Member of the Hessville FOP Lodge 51, member of the Regional Umpire Association, coached for many years for Hessville Little League and American Legion Post 168 Baseball teams. He was a member of the Hammond Victory Post 168, commander six times and served many years as finance officer. He was promoted to the rank of District Commander and Northern Vice Commander of the American Legion. He was also a member of Elks Lodge 981 in Highland and a member of the Committee of Munster Veteran''s Memorial, serving on the Korean War section. He was the co-host of Veteran''s Views at WJOB, and host of Veteran''s Views Television Show on Comcast Cable. He also was the presenter of American Legion School Scholarship Awards. Clyde recently was elected President of the Standard Oil (BP) Annuitants Club. He also was an avid golfer and traveler and a devoted grandfather. Although Clyde wasn''t lucky with women, he sure loved to play the slots. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to American Heart Association or American Legion of NW Indiana appreciated.
