David W. Diekelman, age 77, of Thornton, IL, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015. Beloved husband of Judy A. Diekelman, nee Wolf. Devoted father of Heidi Diekelman, Kurt (Lauren Szydelko) Diekelman, and Timothy Diekelman. Proud grandfather of Matthew (Kathy) Dejnowski and William Archambeault; Great-grandfather of Dakoda and Kaitlin. Dear brother of Mary (Neil) Dahlmann and Ralph (Suzanne) Diekelman. Brother-in-law of Ron Wolf, Elaine (late Gerald) Egdorf, the late Elva Atherton, and Joan (late Charles Zulanas) Melling. Kind uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Walter and Erma Diekelman. Visitation Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home 649 E. 162nd St. (Rt.6/159th St.) South Holland, IL and Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church (508 Chicago Rd. Thornton, IL 60476) with Rev. Harold Wahl officiating. Interment Homewood Memorial Gardens Cemetery - Homewood, IL. Memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Thornton Historical Society appreciated. Mr. Diekelman was a longtime supervisor at Owens-IL and Smurfit-Stone Corp.
