David Huge

David Huge, age 87, of St. John, IN, born February 10, 1936 born into new life Saturday, January 27, 2024.  Loving husband of 65 years of Marilyn Huge, nee Hoogewerf.  Devoted father of Jackie (Chuck) Doornbos, Pat (Jim) Haan, Chris (Melissa) Huge, and the late Michele (Stephen) Tyler. Cherished grandfather of 9 and numerous great-grandchildren.  Dear brother of Wilma Davis and the late Anne (Ed) Kubic; brother-in-law of Jerry (Dolores) Hoogewerf,  John (Ruth) Hoogewerf, Dave (late Ruth) VanDyke, Ken (late Jan) Veenstra, and the late Bob (late Lorraine) Bultema, Jake (late Delores) Hoogewerf, Pete (late Joyce) Briscoe, and Alf (late Helen) Smit.  Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Hilledena Huge, and son-in-law Craig Tinklenberg.

Dave loved the Lord, and loved his family.  Dave was a talented yet humble carpenter, possessing great imagination and wisdom, often dispensed with Enthusiasm and a crooked grin.  He loved challenging ideas and norms, and frequently played the devil’s advocate for anyone listening.  His stories became folk legend for his family: wedding crashing, pranks on friends, and more.  If you knew Dave in his later years, you would also know that his homegoing was not quite four years late by his reckoning – 84 was “his number”. His family will continue his legacy of a deep faith in Christ, great stories and pithy wisdom.  Precious in the sight of the LORD are the death of his saints – Psalm 116:15.

Memorial visitation Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a memorial service to be held at 6:30 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30.Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN, with Rev. John Hoffmaster and grandson Evan Tinklenberg officiating.
