Denise Calhoun

Denise Calhoun went home to be with her heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.

Denise was born November 1, 1954 in Chicago, IL to the late Tom and Pearl Porter. Denise attended both Austin and Westinghouse High School. Denise was employed at the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and retired after 25 years of continuous service. In 1979 she married Fredrick Calhoun. To this union one child was born. On April 16, 2001 Denise became a member of Saint Matthew’s Church.

She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter; Rachael C. (Darryl) Stevens, two sisters; Lavonne G. (Craig) Pittman and Addie Mae (Charles) Burnette, two brothers; Tommy (Phyllis) Porter and Otis F. Porter, one sister-in-law; Bessie Porter, one grandchild; D’Mauri F. Stevens and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Denise was preceded in death by one sister; Rachael Porter and two brothers; Nathaniel Curtis Porter and Thomas Leroy Porter.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be

So he put his arms around you and whispered “come to me”

With tearful eyes I watched you

And I saw you pass away

And although I love you dearly

I could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating

Hard working hands at rest.

God broke my heart to prove to me

He only takes the best.
