Diane Walters, 73, of Crete, IL, passed away February 1, 2022, holding the hand of her loving husband, Robert.
Diane was born on February 22, 1948 in Chicago Heights. After graduating from Crete-Monee High School in 1966, she met Robert Walters, whom she married in 1969. Together, they had two children, Julie and Daniel.
When Bob and Diane began their family, Diane decided to dedicate her life to being the best wife and mother she could be. Diane’s love of family extended to the four-legged members, as well. She dedicated her life to supporting her family through the many twists and turns of their lives, and at every turn, she was there! She has always been a loyal servant of the Lord, sharing the teachings of the Bible with her children, and so many others. She has been an active member of the Crete Church where she has taken great pride in working with the GEMS.
Diane had a love for cooking and baking and when she wasn’t tending to the beautiful flowers and landscaping that surround their picturesque log home, she would be found in the heart of the home, lovingly called ‘Nana’s Kitchen’. She was always testing new recipes and perfecting the older ones, whipping up delicious appetizers and tasty treats, preparing savory meals and traditional family favorites, and baking the most delicious desserts…especially her famous Christmas Cookies. She was truly in her element when she was preparing for the holiday meals because she was always the happiest when the family was all together gathered around the table.
Diane was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores Hanna and her father-in-law, Marvin Walters. She is survived by her husband, Robert Walters, two children, Julie (David) Janaszak and Daniel (Erin) Walters, five grandchildren Adam Janaszak, Anna (David Smith) Janaszak, Matthew Janaszak, Elizabeth Walters, and Nicholas Walters, three siblings Myra (Harold) Taylor, David Hanna, and Patty (Robert) Grupp, and mother-in-law (100 years young), Florence Walters. In addition to immediate family, Diane will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held at Crete Church (24755 South Country Lane, Crete, IL) on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, followed by a Memorial Service at noon. A lunch will be served for all after the service. Because our pets give us unconditional love and enrich our lives, the family would be honored to have donations made to the South Suburban Humane Society, 1103 West End Ave., Chicago Heights, IL 60411.
