Dorothy B Porter

Dorothy "Dottie" B. Porter, 79, of Momence, passed away November 13, 2012 at Riverside Hospital in Kankakee. She was born March 22, 1933 in Newburgh, NY. She was educated in the Newburgh Schools and was a member of the National Honor Society. Dorothy was employed by the USAF at Stewart Air Force Base, NY, where she met her husband to be Richard Porter. They were married on November 1, 1952. She continued to work for the USAF at the Alaskan Air Command in Anchorage, Alaska. She also continued her education and graduated from Governors State University with a Management Information Systems Degree, and she later earned a Culinary Arts degree from Joliet Jr. College. Dorothy and her daughter, Tracey Johnson, co-owned PJ''s Catering in Momence for several years. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd serving as treasurer, ECW member, and member of the Alter Guild and Bishop''s Committee. Dottie was very active in the Momence Women''s Club serving as President for several years. She also served as chairman of the Gladiolus Festival Flower Show. She enjoyed her family, cooking, reading, gardening, and her pets. Survivors include her Beloved husband Richard Porter, loving children, Gregory (Debbie) Porter of North Carolina, Clifford Porter and Tracey Johnson of Momence, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a great grandson. Visitation will be Friday November 16th from 4-7:00 pm at the Momence Funeral Chapel 203 N. Locust St. Momence, IL. Funeral Service will be Saturday 11:00 am at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Momence with Father Mark Middleton officiating. Burial will be at the Momence Cemetery, Momence.
