Dorothy J. Shirvin nee Van Deursen, age 85, of Dyer, IN went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 24, 2011. Beloved wife of the late Arthur Shirvin. Loving mother of Thomas ( Michelle ) Shirvin of Schererville, IN and Debra (Ken) Heerema of Schererville, IN. Cherished grandmother of Nicole Shirvin, Kevin Heerema and Kurt Heerema. Fond sister of the late Norman Van Deursen and dear sister-in-law of Grace Van Deursen-Nowicki. Visitation Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt. 30 & Pleasant Springs Lane) Dyer, IN 46311. Funeral service Wednesday, September 28th 11:00 A.M. at Faith Church (100 West 81st Avenue Dyer, IN ) , with services conducted by Rev. Jason DeVries. Interment at Oak Ridge Cemetery " Lansing, IL. Mrs. Shirvin served in the cadets Nurse Corps during WWII and continued on working as a nurse at several hospitals and retired after over 30 years of service from Family Medical Center in South Holland, IL. Dorothy was also a Charter member of Faith Church. Memorials appreciated to Faith Church or American Cancer Society appreciated.
