Dwight Cosmo Volpe, age 79, of Chicago Heights, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 5, 2026, in his home in the company of his loving family.

Dwight was born in Chicago Heights on May 1, 1946, to Vincenzo and Lucy Volpe. He was a graduate of Bloom High School and enlisted in the United States Navy serving honorably during the Vietnam War. He was proud of his Italian/Sicilian heritage however was even more proud to be an American and taught his family to love our country. He was trained as a barber prior to enlisting, but then embraced the career that he loved, serving as a Chicago Heights firefighter for 30 years prior to his retirement. He greatly enjoyed his camaraderie and friendships with his fellow firefighters over the years.

Dwight loved his family and sacrificed to give his children the best education he could. Dwight was creative, a technical thinker, a “jack of all trades” and a DIY guy willing to tackle any project. He had a computer from the inception of PC’s and appreciated evolving technology. He loved antique cars, gardening, and fishing. During the summer you could often find him at his lake house in Northeast Indiana, taking his children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren on a pontoon ride. He was a ham radio operator and enjoyed talking with other operators from around the world. He loved animals whether one of his faithful dogs, numerous other pets over the years, or a squirrel or a bird he would befriend. He was a wonderful cook making phenomenal Italian dishes as well as exploring other dishes that he might see on one of his favorite cooking shows. Dishes he would tell you to at least try, and you did not regret it.

Dwight believed wholly in the Lord Jesus Christ and knew no matter his imperfections that he was saved by the grace of God through the Lord Jesus Christ. He regularly attended Parker Road Bible Church with his family until his health prevented him. At that point you would find him on the church’s livestream greeting people with a “Good Morning everyone” in the comments. He loved watching his favorite shows, often including a British detective show or The Antique Road Show, but he started his day listening to live streams of his favorite preachers teach the Bible.

Dwight is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Kathy Volpe (nee Schranz), four children Bonnie Volpe, Angela (Jim) Jacobucci, Frank (Erynn) Volpe and Tony (Stacie) Volpe, ten grandchildren Rebecca, Joel, Mia, Luke, Chloe, Emelia, Julia, Sophia, Nathan and Dominic, four great grandchildren Kaylee, Leah, Noelle and James, brother John (late Jackie) Volpe and many dear nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents Vincenzo and Lucy Volpe and his brother Vincent (late Barbara) Volpe.

Dwight will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
