Elinus "Chris" Niehof Jr.

Elinus Niehof Jr. “Chris”, age 79, of Dyer, IN, went home to his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 9, 2026. Beloved husband of Lois Niehof, nee DeYoung for 60 years on August 31. Loving father of Tim (Julie) Niehof. Cherished grandfather of Rachel (Elliott) Chapman and Becca (Ben) Dykstra. Great-grandfather of Elijah, Noah, Mia, and Eliana Chapman, Rhett, Everly and Archer Dykstra. Dear brother of Grace (late Pete) Reitsema, the late Gert (late Herman) VanderZee, and the late Tena (late Keith) Pleoger. Brother-in-law of Alma DeYoung (Bill). Kind uncle of several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Elinus Sr. and Winnie Niehof.

Chris served as a United States Army Veteran, a fireman and EMT, and worked for 33 years in Public Works for the Village of South Holland and retired as the Director. He served as President of the Meadow Lake Condo Association for 15 years, and was a former member of South Holland Lions Club and a cadet counselor.

Memorial visitation Friday, August 14, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN with services conducted by Pastor Andy Nearpass.
