Elizabeth A. "Betty" Van Kanegan, nee Swets, age 92, of Highland, IN, passed away peacefully Monday, March 3, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Clarence F. Van Kanegan. Beloved mother of Carol (late Roger) Zigterman and Walita (Garry) Van Baren. Proud grandmother of Patricia (Kenneth) Buikema, Roger "Butch" (Katherine) Zigterman, Cheryl (Gregory) Sabens, Garry Van Baren Jr., Dale (Gina) Van Baren and the late Mary Beth Zigterman; Great- grandmother of Shaun (Melissa) Buikema, Kelly (Jacob) Scheeringa, Ryan (Stephanie) Buikema, Renee Buikema, Connor, Taylor, Ethan, Olivia and Ashlynn Sabens, Christopher, Jason, Jessica and Abigail Van Baren, Gordon, Matthew, Gabriel and Mateo Van Baren; Great-great grandmother of Carson, Adeline and Samuel Buikema, Grayce Scheeringa, and Laila and Tonya Van Baren. Dear sister of Minnie (late Eugene) Van Kanegan, Henrietta (late Dirk) Poort, Walita (late Niel) Jabaay, Arie (Yvonne) Swets, the late Gertrude (late Lewis) Hoekstra, late Jenny (late Fred) Houtsma, late John (late Dorothy), late Henry Nelson (Clara), late Eugene (Jacoba), late Henry, late Nelson, late Minnie and the late Minnie Swets. Aunt of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Walter and Aggie Swets. Visitation Friday, March 7, 2014 from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lanes (Rt. 30 & Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN. Funeral service Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at First Christian Reformed Church of South Holland, IL with services conducted by Rev. Ben Tol. Interment Oak Ridge Cemetery - Lansing, IL.
