Ernest O Thurmond

Ernest O. Thurmond, "Ernie" age 85, of Steger, IL, born in Ripley, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2023. Beloved husband of the late Luanne E. Thurmond, nee Tilton. Loving father of Jeffrey (Dina) Thurmond and Tracy (Thurmond) Bosco. Cherished grandfather of Taylor (Florijan) Matic, Austin (Alanna) Konieczka, Nico Bosco, Brittany Thurmond, Lori (Clayton) Sago, and Cori Lopez. Dear great-grandfather of Luka, Lily, Emerson, Bianca, Makayla, Alayna, and Lily. Dear brother of Shirley (Rodney) Smith and June Christmann. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Bennett and Nanny Thurmond, siblings Elna Robbins, Thelma Bolden, Dorothy Riddle, Sam Thurmond, and Johnny Hendren.  Ernie retired from Ford Motor Company as a Supervisor after 33 years of service. He was a proud United States Army Veteran, retired Commander of American Legion Post 551 and Brother of the Masons. Ernie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Steger Memorial Chapel (3045 Chicago Rd. Steger, IL). Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2023 at Steger Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery – Elwood, IL
