Evelyn J. Carter (nee Fischer) age 90, of Calumet Park and Oak Forest, Illinois passed away peacefully April 12, 2017. Beloved wife of the late William Carter. Loving mother of Phyllis (Gerald) Ruff, Evelyn (Walter) Hawkins, Kenneth (Kathleen) Carter and Wilda (Roger) Hagen, Step-mother of the late Gloria Tobbe. Cherished grandmother of 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Helen Payne and Shirley Plummer. Preceded in death by siblings, Clara Votteler, Edith Holtz-Klumb, Edna Evans-Kurver, Edwin Fischer Jr. Evelyn was a former longtime member and past President of The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #1156, The Forty and Eight La Femme’s Cabane #1348, and The Eight and Forty Organization. Visitation, Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 3:00-8:00 P.M. at the Smits Funeral Homes-Steger Memorial Chapel (3045 Chicago Rd.
