Frances Carmel Mossell

Frances Carmel Mossell, nee Ferguson "Gorge, Gorgeous Granny", age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 7, 2020.  Fran is preceded in death by the love of her life, Allen Mossell and her sons, Marty, Mark, and her daughter Judy.  She is survived by her children: Patricia (Joe) Sitarz, Shawn (Maureen), Dr. Dan (Sylvia), Jane (Michael) Sablich, Mary (Steve) DeBiasio, and Tad (Somie) Mossell; 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  Fran was born August 15, 1932 in Liverpool, England, one of seven children born to the late Patrick and Rose Ferguson.

Fran came to the United States with Allen settling in Dolton, IL, where she and Allen raised all of their children.  All of Fran's siblings eventually followed her to America building their own families and spreading out across the country and to Canada.  Fran and her siblings made it a priority to gather often and spend time with each other at various family reunions (Irish Hills) and in celebration of life's events. It was important to her that her family remain connected and involved in each other's lives.

Fran believed above all else, that love and family were the most precious gifts.  She often befriended strangers and took in her children's friends as her own.  She shared her house, her faith, and her infectious smile with everyone freely.  Fran was known for her generous heart, her beautiful voice, and her devotion to her children and grandchildren.  She will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her.

A memorial Mass and celebration of Fran's life will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church 500 Northgate Dr. Dyer, IN, so we can all gather together to celebrate her incredible life and legacy.  In honor of Fran's life, please consider donating to Smile Train, a charity that was near and dear to her heart.  Donations can be made at www.smiletrain.org
