Gary D. Steffens

Gary D. Steffens, age 71, of Wheatfield, IN formerly of Dolton, IL, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, April 18, 2026. Loving husband of 51 years of Janet L. Steffens, nee Palango.  Devoted father of Julie (Tony) Messer, Jennifer (David) Schmid, Robert (Angela) Steffens , and Jamie Steffens (Juan).  Proud grandfather of Josh (Carly) Messer, Patrick Messer, Tyler (Sydney) Schmid, Brendan Schmid, Cody Steffens, Dylan Steffens, Jason (Danielle) Cannon, and Dominic Botts; great-grandfather of 3.  Dearest brother of Thomas (Linda) Steffens, Carol (Larry) Wasil, Cindy (Mike) Mischke, and Nancy (Mike) Roe.  Kind uncle of several nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.  Preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and Marian Steffens, brother LeRoy Steffens Jr., sister Barbara Balling, and sister Susie Johnson.  Gary was a member of the Carpenter’s Union Local #10 and was an avid Nascar fan.  Gary was loved by his family, many friends and neighbors, and will be truly missed.  Visitation Tuesday, April 21, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of his funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home James E. Janusz, Director 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.), Dyer, IN.
