View Video Tribute Gene Doyle age 77 of Steger, Il. Passed away August 31st. at St. James Medical Center Chicago Heights. Gene Doyle is survived by his wife of 55 years Patricia Nee Garner, of Steger, a Son Timothy (Sherry) Doyle Richton Park, IL. and three grandchildren: Caitlyn, Ryan and Tyler. A Brother Jack Doyle preceded him in death. Visitation Monday Sept. 4th. at the Smits Funeral Home - Steger Memorial Chapel 3045 Chicago Rd. Steger, Il. from 3:00 till 8:00 P.M. Funeral Service Tuesday Sept. 5th. at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be at Skyline Memorial Park Cemetery. Gene worked at Hobart for 28 years, and then worked at the Markham Courthouse and Silliker Labs. As a young child he was a band director and bugler under the direction of Mr. Crumb of Bloom High School and he traveled around the U.S. performing. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received the Bronze Star. He was a member of Steger V.F.W. post #8283, Amvets, Moose Lodge of Chicago Heights, Chicago Heights Sunshine Club, Steger over 50 Club and a volunteer for Outreach at St. Liborius Church.
