George Calvin Newquist, 99, of Steger, Illinois, passed away on May 5, 2026. Born on January 11, 1927, George lived a long and meaningful life grounded in faith, service, and an unwavering work ethic.

A proud veteran of World War II, George served his country with honor. Following the war, he was stationed in Germany as a military police officer, carrying out his duties with discipline, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility.

George was a devoted member of his church, where his strong faith guided him throughout his life. He gave generously of his time to his community, serving as a Little League baseball coach and encouraging young players with patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine love for the game. A lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his teams. He enjoyed watching track.

He found great joy in caring for his yard and tending to his flowers, taking pride in the beauty he cultivated. Known for his steadfast work ethic, George approached every task with dedication and purpose.

George is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Yvonne, who lovingly cared for him throughout his declining years; his three sons, Gregg, Kevin (Diane), and Dennis; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

No formal services will be held at this time; a private remembrance will be held in the near future with immediate family.
