George H. Pfotenhauer, age 74, of Schererville, IN, formerly of Dolton, IL passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2014. Beloved husband of Julie, nee Komorowski. Loving father of George C. (Laurie) Pfotenhauer and Jeffrey (Clare) Pfotenhauer. Proud grandfather of Joshua, Colin, LeAnn, Moriah, and Nicole Pfotenhauer, and Kristina (Nick) Genadek. Cherished great-grandfather of Maddox and Taylor. Dear brother of Marlene (Jerry) Jorsch, Barbara (Bill) Bland, the late Marge (late Alfred) Dalla Valla, late Clarence (late Leatrice), late John(late Ava), late Robert(late Joan), and the late Roger (Judy) Pfotenhauer. Preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Henrietta Pfotenhauer. Visitation Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt. 30 & Pleasant Springs Lane) Dyer, IN 46311. Prayer service Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. leaving for St. Michael the Archangel Church (One Wilhelm St. Schererville, IN) for 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Mr. Pfotenhauer was a retired Chief of Police from the Dolton Police Department where he served for 27 years. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association, or Charity of Choice.
