George H. Rennwanz, age 91, U.S. Navy WWII Veteran, having served on the USS General John Pope. Late of South Holland, IL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 1, 2017, surrounded by his family. Loving husband of 66 years of Lucille Rennwanz, nee Lorenz. Devoted father of Judie Rennwanz, Carol Rennwanz, George (Marlene) Rennwanz, Alan Rennwanz, and Christine Cunningham. Proud grandpa of David, Scott, Kevin, Colin, Shawn, Megan, Brendan, Matthew, Brian, Elizabeth, and Chrissy; great-grandpa of 10. Preceded in death by his parents George and Effie Rennwanz.
Visitation Monday, February 6, 2017 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home, 649 E. 162nd St. (Rt.6/159th St.) South Holland, IL 60473. Funeral service Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church 651 E. 166th St. South Holland, IL 60473, with Rev. Kwame Lynn Pitts officiating. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery – Elwood, IL.
George was retired from General Foods, was a former member of South Suburban Chiselers, a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church Choir, graduated from Harper High School in 1943, joining the Navy shortly after. George enjoyed family, fishing, and woodworking. He also enjoyed smoking a good cigar with family and friends.
