Georgianna Penney

Georgianna Penney, age 92, of Marinette, WI, formerly of Crete, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 1, 2025. She was born December 4, 1932 in Chicago, IL to James and Mae Sterling. Her father was a carpenter for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. Georgianna spent her early life in Chicago and eventually relocated to Cicero and southside locations before settling in the Crete, IL area. Actively employed most of her life, she worked for several manufacturing companies, including Zenith and Motorola and waitressed in area businesses in Illinois. Georgianna and her husband often remodeled some of their homes themselves over the years.

She was married to James Thomas Penney, Sr. who preceded her in death along with sons, Ernest Gene and James Thomas Penney, Jr.

Georgianna is survived by her daughter, Barbara Penney Derouin of Marinette, WI, with whom she resided; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 12th at Smits Funeral Homes-Steger Memorial Chapel, 3045 Chicago Rd., Steger, IL from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Park, Monee, IL. www.smitsfh.com
