Gerald “Jerry” Fennema, age 86, of Dyer, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2023.  Loving husband of the late Joyce J. Fennema, nee Ruiter (2022). Devoted father of Janet (Jim) Stalman, Judy (Jeff) DeBoer, and Jill (Pete) Dyke.  Cherished grandfather of Jennifer (Rich) Bultema, Joel (Diana) DeBoer, Joshua (Ashley) DeBoer, Michael Stalman, Sherri (Beau) Harker, Melissa Stalman, Sarah Stalman, Jonathan (Brooke) Dyke, and Stephanie (Alan) Cummings; great-grandfather of 11.  Preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Ellen Fennema.

Jerry was a lifelong member of Munster Church where he had served as a deacon and an usher. He absolutely loved greeting everyone who entered the church doors. He also enjoyed volunteering at Roseland Christian Ministries. Jerry and his wife, Joyce, both loved to travel together. We are thankful that they are now reunited in their heavenly home.

Visitation Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.), Dyer, IN, with Rev. Jim Hollendoner officiating.  Private interment Oak Ridge Cemetery – Lansing, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to World Vision.
