Gerald Roy Skiff

Gerald “Jerry” Roy Skiff, age 89, of Schererville, IN, formerly of Dolton, IL, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022.  Beloved husband of Joan Skiff, nee Meingasner.  Loving father of Jerry (Stacy) Skiff, Ronald (Betty) Skiff, the late Steven Skiff, James (Mary) Skiff, and Janet (John) Hearne.  Devoted grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 11.  Dear brother of the late Delores Ellison, late Susie Coonfare, Eunice Cleveland, late Beverly Troyer, late Robert Skiff, and Arthur Skiff.  Fond uncle of many nephews and nieces.  Preceded in death by his parents Roy and Pauline Skiff.          Mr. Skiff was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Jerry was a retired truck driver.  For the past 25 years he loved bartending at Piscateers, where he made many great friends.  He was an avid bowler and Cub fan. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the birds in his yard. He could often be found chasing rabbits out of his garden.  He was an outstanding family man.  You could often find him at many of his grand children's sporting events.  He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

A visitation with family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a celebration of life service to be held at 5:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home James E. Janusz, Director, 2121 Pleasant Springs Ln. (Rt.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.), Dyer, IN.  Memorial donations may be given to the Leukemia Foundation (www.lls.org).
