Geraldine "Gerry" Bazant, nee Bajenski, age 79, of Dyer, IN, formerly of Lansing and South Chicago, IL. Passed away peacefully June 21, 2016. Beloved wife of 56 years of Richard. Devoted mother of Janet (Tom) Koontz, Karen Bazant, Kevin Bazant, Rick (Jean) Bazant, Kim (Frank) Farkas Ret. SPPD, and Jim Bazant (Dyer PD). Loving grandmother of 13: Jill and Jason Blauw, Joseph (Susan) Jericho and Jennifer Davitto, Jordan and Jadon Bazant, Ricky (Christina Brooks) Bazant, Allyssa (Justin Marino), Emma and Aaron Frakas, Dylan and Caden Bazant; great-grandmother of 5: Tyler Smith, Jaylen, Jaleah, and Joslynn Davitto and Addison Marino; one great-great-grandson: Ryan Smith. Dear sister of Gene (Joan) Bajenski, and Len (late Chris) Bajenski Ret. CPD; sister-in-law Dolores "Tiny" (late Bob) Huber. Preceded in death by her mother Marie Bajenski, brother Robert (late Millie) Bajenski. Visitation Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30&Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN 46311. Lying in state Monday, June 27, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. directly at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church (500 Northgate Dr. Dyer, IN) with Rev. Charles Niblick officiating.Gerry was a lifelong employee of R.R. Donnelly in Chicago, a past member of the Knights of Columbus Columbian Ladies, and involved parishioner, money counter and 50/50 raffle committee memeber at St. maria Goretti Church, a longtime volunteer at Franciscan St. Margaret Hospital, and a member of Dyer Senior Pinochle Club. Above all these, Gerry was a cherished wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, impassioned great-grandmother and faithful great-great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by the lives she touched.In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Food Pantries at St. Maria Goretti and St. Joesph's Church in Dyer, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Father Blaney Share Foundation in Rolling Prairie, IN, great appreciated.
