Gertrude Mae Schepel, nee Eylander, age 86, of Dyer, IN passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 16, 2023.  Beloved wife of the late Richard G. Schepel. Dear mother of Debra (Chuck) Verhagen and Barb (Tom) Van Prooyen.  Proud grandmother of Steven (Jana) Verhagen, Ryan Van Prooyen, Kimberly (Chris) Vanden Berg, Jordan Van Prooyen, and Kelsey (Lucas) Vander Wal; great-grandmother of Nathan, Elliot, Emersyn, Lincoln, and Nolan. Loving sister of Joan (Andrew) Van Schouwen and the late Nelson (Wilma) Eylander. Aunt of several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Nelson J. and Alice Eylander.

Visitation Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30 & Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN. Private family interment will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery - Lansing, IL.
