Gertrude E. Stallinga

Gertrude E. Stallinga, nee Schutt, age 90, of South Holland, IL, went home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Beloved wife of the late Arnold J. Stallinga. Loving mother of the late Tom (Terri) Stallinga, Rick (Deb) Stallinga, and Jeff Stallinga. Proud grandmother of Ashlee (David) DeWit, Kelsee Stallinga, and Tommy Stallinga. Great-grandmother of Asa and Rose DeWit. Dear sister of Evelyn (late John) Luchtenburg, Kathy Clausing, George (Betty) Schutt, and the late Herman Schutt. Cherished aunt of several nieces and nephews.

Gert was raised in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago and maintained those friendships throughout her life. Gert loved serving and working with people throughout her life. She worked for the Bible League, was the librarian at Peace Church, invested in the lives of children at Calvin Christian School’s extended care, and volunteered her time at the Harvest Thrift Store.

All who knew Gert loved and appreciated her sense of humor, quick wit, and sharp mind, right to the very end of her life. Gert had a solid faith in Jesus, which she relied on throughout the challenges in her life. Gert was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home 649 E. 162nd Street South Holland, IL with Rev. Dr. Richard and Barbara Grevengoed officiating. Interment Homewood Memorial Gardens – Homewood, IL.
