Gertrude E. Summers

Gertrude E. Summers, nee Schellert, age 91, of Riverdale, IL passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025.  Loving mother of Linda A. Summers and Mark L. Summers, formerly married to Herbert Summers. Dear sister of the late Ernie (Bonnie) Schellert.  Preceded in death by her parents Albert and Elizabeth Schellert. Gertrude had worked previously at Continental Bank and as a Library Assistant/Circulation staff member at the Dolton Library for 36 years. In her spare time, she thoroughly enjoyed crafting, gardening and reading. Gertrude was a woman of deep faith in Jesus Christ and compassion for others.  Gertrude was loved by her family and will be deeply missed.

A visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 2:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Smits Funeral Home, 649 E. 162nd St. (Rt.6/159th St.) South Holland, IL.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery – Lansing, IL.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or Wycliffe Bible Translators.
