Glenn A. Gilbert Sr.

Glenn A. Gilbert Sr., age 93, late of Dyer, IN, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 23, 2022.  Born July 3, 1929 in York, PA, where he and Mary Ann grew up together.  They joyfully celebrated their 69 ^th Wedding Anniversary on July 5, 2022.  Loving and devoted husband of Mary Ann Gilbert, nee Strayer.  Devoted father of James, Ann, Diane (Arturo), John (Judith), and Glenn Jr. (Sheena).  Proud grandfather of Anngelique, Claire, Madeline, Lila, Blair, Caroline, Cory, Danielle, Johnny B, Christina, John Jr., Jessica, Megan, and Aiden; great-grandfather of Cynthia, Timothy, Theodore, Iris, Johnny Jr., John III, Jaxon, Amelia, James, Sophia, Liliana, Leilani, Peyton, Jonah, and Juliet; great-great-grandfather of Aubrey and Andrew.  Preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Emma Gilbert, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, and one loving grandson, James.

Dad was a self-made man.  He founded and successfully built a tile contracting business that he was able to retire from.  He could build anything he could imagine.  Dad enjoyed motorcycles, cars and guns.  He owned a cottage on Shafer Lake at Indiana Beach where he enjoyed boating and other recreation on many weekends with his wife and family.  Dad loved to watch sports, especially football, boxing and even MMA.  He was a great Chicago Bears fan.  Dad had a deep love and respect for nature, which he taught to his children.  He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, and later just watching the wildlife - even on documentaries.  He liked westerns too.  Dad had a big heart, and a beautiful singing voice, which he maintained up to the end.  He was a loving man and well loved. He left a place in many of our hearts that we will cherish for years to come.

Visitation Sunday, July 31, 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a funeral service to be held at 6:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.), Dyer, IN, with Rev. Dale Hetherington officiating.
