Glenn R. Longfield, Sr., age 76, of Valparaiso, formerly Lynwood, IL, passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on February 9, 2017. Survived by his loving children: Christine (Nick) Caprio, Glenn (Judy) Longfield, Jr., Katie Longfield, Bob (Erin) Longfield, and Mike (Reika) Longfield. Grandfather of Niko, Marco, Michael, Kelly, Candace, Kevin, Kayla, Stephanie, Tyler, Gavin, Ethan, and Kai. Great grandfather of Preston, Addie, and Kenzie. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Walter and Margaret Longfield, loving wife Elaine, and son John. Visitation Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a Pomen Service at 7:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30&Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN. Funeral service Monday, February 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church (1500 186th St. Lansing, IL). Interment Elmwood Cemetery – Hammond, IN. Glenn was a 1958 graduate of Chicago Vocational High School, a United States Army Veteran, and was employed as a lineman for Commonwealth Edison for 33 years. Glenn loved and enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his dog Mitsy. He was a consummate handyman and jack of all trades.
