Harriet Merle Tolnay, 80, of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Lansing, IL, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 23, 2018 at her home. She was born April 25, 1938 in Chicago, IL to John and Johannah (Vaughn) Mersch.

Harriet enjoyed reading, playing cards and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Surviving are her five children: Ronald Tolnay of Warsaw, Tammy (Paul) Sink of Valparaiso, Sherry (Ken) Sink of St. John, Sandy (Chris) Adams of Valparaiso and John (Devona) Tolnay of Westville; thirteen grandchildren: Tobias, Brianna, Nathan, Evan, Emma, Paulie (Stephanie), Hannah, Danielle, K.C., Raechel, Meagan, Ricky and Matthew; ten great grandchildren; one niece Sandra Minton. Preceding her in death were her parents, one son Bill Tolnay; one brother, Ken Mersch; and one sister Dorothy Golden.

A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN.
