Major Harry Litherland, age 83, a Manitowoc, Wisconsin resident was Promoted to Glory on March 24, 2015 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Harry was born on March 13, 1932 in Momence, IL, son of the late LeRoy and Hazel (Wheeler) Litherland. He was home schooled through his high school graduation. On June 22, 1957 he married the former Shirley Malek in Chicago Heights, IL. Harry and his wife Shirley were officers in The Salvation Army for 37 years, serving in many places including St. Paul, MN, Owatonna, MN, St. Cloud, MN, Fargo, ND, Columbia, MO, Cape Girardeau, MO, Sedalia, MO, West Frankfort, IL, Marquette, MI and Manitowoc, WI. After retirement, the couple continued to serve in Marquette, MI, Racine, WI and Ishpeming, MI. Harry was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, enjoyed playing the harmonica and collected eagles. His favorite scripture reading was Isaiah 40:31. Survivors include his wife: Shirley, Manitowoc; five children and their spouses: Julie (Tom) McDowell, Cathy (Mike) Himes, Mark Litherland, Emilee Litherland and Timothy (Wendy) Litherland; eight grandchildren: Katie, Austin and Damon Himes, Erin (Mike) Hudgens, Elizabeth (Spencer) Chapin, Emilee McDowell, Eden McDowell and Grace Litherland; one great granddaughter: Imogen Chapin; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Donna Litherland and Merry (Martin) Venn; and one sister-in-law: Gloria Carrizales. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by one grandchild; one sister: Elenora Litherland; and one brother-in-law: David Carrizales. The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at The Salvation Army from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral services at 7:00 p.m. at The Salvation Army (411 North 6th Street) Manitowoc, WI. Officiating at the service will be Lts. Jeff and Terri Olson. The family will also greet relatives and friends on Monday, March 30, 2015 at Steger Memorial Chapel 3045 Chicago Rd Steger, IL from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Oakridge Glen Oaks Cemetery - Hillside, IL. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Harry''s name. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire medical staff at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, for the care and compassion shown towards Harry and his family. Also to Lts. Jeff and Terri Olson for their pastoral care.
