Henry J. Boer, age 79, of St. John, IN, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 27, 2014. Beloved husband of Marilyn Boer, nee Eriks. Loving father of Linda (Randy) Smit, James (Janet) Boer, and Brenda (Paul) Hoekstra. Proud grandfather of Michael (Dawn) Smit, Matthew (Amy) Smit, Nathan Smit, Mark (Rebecca) Boer, Brandon Hoekstra, and Cameron Hoekstra and great-grandfather of five. Dear brother of Leonard Boer; Step-father of Cherilyn(Kevin) Klomp and step-grandfather of Olivia and Brody Klomp. Mr. Boer was preceded in death by his first wife Nellie Ruth Boer (nee Jonkman) in 1997 and his second wife Lorraine Van Zuidam Boer (nee Mossell) in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents: Nick and Jennie(nee Santefort) Boer; two brothers: Everett (late Marie) Boer and Chester (Helen) Boer and one sister: Jean(late Bob) Armin. Visitation Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane Dyer, IN 46311. Funeral service Friday, January 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Reformed Church (3134 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL 60438) with Rev. Ben Kappers officiating. Interment Oak Ridge Cemetery - Lansing, IL. Mr. Boer was a long time member of the First Reformed Church of Lansing where he had served both as an Elder and Deacon. He was also a retired employee of United Parcel Service.
