John “Jack” A. Black III , age 78, of Schererville, IN passed away peacefully Monday, March 2, 2020. Beloved husband of Becky Black, nee Mallers. Devoted father of Carrie (Josh) Shank and R P. (Claudia) Black. Proud PapPap of Quinn and Reese Shank and William Black. Many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.  Preceded in death by his parents John Jr. and Ethel Black. Jack was a devoted father, husband and friend.  He was a United States Army veteran, served as President of the Rich East Alumni Association for many years, helped run the athletic program and was a member of the school board at St. Mary in Park Forest, IL.  Jack loved to read, play cards, golf, he was a crossword puzzle efficianado and he loved hosting parties, especially on Christmas Eve and St. Patrick’s Day!

Visitation Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt. 30 & Pleasant Springs Lane) Dyer, IN. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery – Elwood, IL.
