James A. Haines, age 85, late of Crown Point, IN formerly of Harvey, IL, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013. Beloved husband of Elsie E. Haines, nee Yadron; dear father of Jim (Barbara) Haines Cynthia (Ed Mueller) Haines, Janet Haines, and Nancy (Lee) Maney; loving grandfather of Michael Haines, Elizabeth Mueller, and Taylor Maney; dear brother of Marion Fox Atwood and the late Lorraine Haines. Preceded in death by his parents Walter and Theresa Haines. Visitation Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 2:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Monday, April 22, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 A.M. at the Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home, 649 E. 162nd St. (Rt.6/159th St.) South Holland, IL with services conducted by Rev. John J. Powers. Interment Private. Mr. Haines served as Mayor of the city of Harvey from 1967-1983. He was a contractor in the South Suburban area for many years and was a W.W. II U.S. Navy Veteran having served on the U.S.S. Pittsburgh. He was elected last year to the Thornton High School Hall of Fame.
