James Kasper

James Kasper, age 85, of Crete, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023.  Beloved husband of the late Grace Kasper (nee Kuiper). Devoted father of Albert (Carol) Kasper, Janet Kasper and James (Terri) Kasper; devoted grandfather of Ashley Kasper (Austin Schleder), Joel Kasper, Mackenzie (Kevin) O’Brien, Madeline (Christian) Catania, and Kelsie Kasper. Dear brother of Janey (Hero) Tameling.  Preceded in death by his parents Abel and Jane Kasper.  He will be dearly missed by his special friend, Carol Vis.

Mr. Kasper emigrated from the Netherlands in the late 1950’s.  He met Grace Kuiper, who was also a recent emigrant from the Netherlands, and they were married in 1959 and settled in Lansing, IL.  James was a retired mechanic for the Homewood Fire Department and Mack Truck Chicago. He was a long time member of First Church PCA (formerly First Reformed Church, Lansing) where he served on consistory many times and was involved with the dartball and bowling teams. He was also involved with the Lansing Food Pantry for many years.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Funeral service Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at First Church (PCA) 3134 Ridge Rd, Lansing, IL.  Interment Skyline Memorial Park – Monee, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to Jim & Lynnae Smith – Eagle Crest Alaska Missions or Hospice of the Calumet Area .
