James Edward Szelinski age 94, of Beecher, IL, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. Jim was born on September 15, 1928 to Frank and Ann Mesekevich-Szelinski in Mt. Carmel, PA.
Following graduation from high school he joined the US Army and proudly served as a Medic during WW II. After his service to his country, he moved to Chicago and married his sweetheart, Dorothy L. (nee Perchinski). They were married for 73 years, had 3 sons and were with each other through life’s ups and downs. As his sons grew up, Jim spent much of his free time as manager and coach of the Civic League, helping his sons learn to play baseball. Retired from Verson Steel, he was an avid White Sox fan and a long time member of St. Liborius Catholic Church.
Jim is survived by his wife Dorothy and three children, James, Jr., (Jean), Scott R (late Shannon) and Jay (Gayle), grandsons Eric (Shannon), Scott F (Amie), Tyler and Aaron as well as great-grandchildren, Tommy, Brody and Shannon, who fondly called him “Chief” and multiple nieces and nephews.
