Janet Van Aa

Janet Van der Aa, nee Burkema, age 88, of Flossmoor, IL, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013. Dear mother of Lawrence H.(Late Carol) Van der Aa; loving grandmother of Stefanie(Stephen) Mullin and Heather(Joseph) Martinez; and cherished great-grandmother of Grace and Abigail Mullin. Preceded in death by her husband Russell Van der Aa; parents Harry and Gladys Burkema and her sister Marlys Dykstra. Mrs. Van der Aa was an extremely gifted pianist, piano teacher and church musician for many years and was a world traveler. She formerly served as a member of the South Suburban Symphony Orchestra Board, Chairperson of the South Suburban Christian Women''s Club, member of the Heart Association Board of Cook County and an American Cancer Society volunteer. A private service and private interment was held at Fairmount Willow Springs Memorial Park - Willow Springs, IL. Memorial contributions may be given to the Cancer Support Center of Homewood, IL or Ingalls Inpatient Hospice.
