Jeanne Florence Gardner
Born Jeanne Hedberg on April 27, 1925, she was the daughter of Milford Hedberg and Florence Larson, descendants of Swedish immigrants. Pretty and outgoing, she dated and corresponded with many servicemen during WWII while working at Chicago Bridge & Iron, which made landing craft for the war effort. One returning serviceman, Charles Gardner, won the prize and they were married on May 28, 1949 at the Roseland Evangelical Mission Church in Chicago, now the Village Church in Dyer, Indiana. She's been a faithful member of the church her entire life.
Eagerly embracing change, she was an active consumer of email and Facebook, managing a dozen simultaneous Scrabble games with friends and family up to the end. In 2016 she completed her memoir, which can be read at www.goo.gl/M3JCCD.
Mother of Barry (Susan) Gardner of Phoenix, Arizona; Kent (Jill) Gardner of Rochester, New York; and Laurel (Wayne) Schaap of Dyer, Indiana; Jeanne took great delight in her seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Interested in all aspects of their lives, confident but not judgmental, all will miss her cheerful demeanor and loving support. She died on October 16, 2017 after a fall.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 5:00 P.M. at Village Church, 14849 W. 93rd Ave., Dyer, Indiana. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Village Church.
