Joan M Roggeveen

Joan M. Roggeveen (née Cernick), 65, of Crete, formerly of Dolton, passed away on May 27, 2017. Wife of the late John P. Roggeveen and loving mother of Jill (Michael Harrington) and Jaclyn. Joan was the second oldest of nine children born to the late Ed and the late Dorothy Cernick; she is survived by siblings Barbara Cernick, Kenneth Cernick, Pamela (Larry) Claxton, Alan (Lydia) Cernick, Nancy (Daniel) Cosentino, Jeffrey Cernick, Laura Cernick & Edward (Shirley) Cernick. She was the sister-in-law of James & Linda Roggeveen. A caring aunt to many and friend to all, Joan loved to garden, laugh, dance, spend time with family and friends and cheer on the White Sox. She will be missed more than words can express. A visitation will be held on Wed., May 31 from 3-8 pm at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Ln., Dyer, IN. 219-322-7300. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Thurs., June 1 at 11 am, also at Smits Funeral Home.
