John J Cashman

John J. Cashman, age 74 of Steger, IL. passed away on November 14, 2024 surrounded by family. John was a proud United States Army veteran and served at the Pentagon. John took an active role in his community. After returning from the military, John served his Church as a trustee, and was elected Precinct committeeman. He was co-chair of a tax group to try to get property taxes equalized in the two counties in Steger.

Later he coached little league baseball for a number of years. He also sponsored Steger basketball for many years. He was appointed to the zoning board for the village of Steger, and served a four-year term as trustee for the village.

John was a man of many talents. He spent over 40 years in union construction trades, auto repair, amateur locksmith, carpenter, hypnotist (hypnotherapist), and writer. John and Sharon attended The Hypnosis Training Institute of Santa Barbara in 1997, and graduated as Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. John and his wife Sharon own and operate The Hypnotherapy Center in Steger. John is a Certified Hypnotherapist with The National Guild of Hypnotists and former elected President of the National Society of Hypnotherapists. During his term as president, he put out a monthly newsletter to all members. John was instrumental in merging the National Society of Hypnotherapist with the National Guild of Hypnotist, the largest certifying hypnosis organization in the world. John wrote professional articles on the use of hypnosis for the National Guild of Hypnotist. His articles were published in approximately 83 countries. John never said no to anyone who asked for his help. During those 25 years John helped many people using hypnotherapy, many of them pro bona.

John is survived by his wife Sharon of 55 years, daughter Kimberly Daniels (Paul), son John M (Lisa), and daughter Natacia (Ed) Tominov. 7 grandchildren Scott (Allison), Chris (Nikki), Marriah (Hunter), Jake (Kayla), Kylee, Gabbi, and Nate. 5 great grandchildren AnnaBella, Abel, CJ, Bryce, and Kinsley.

Visitation Sunday, November 24, 2024 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. At Smits-Steger Memorial Chapel, 3045 Chicago Rd. Steger, IL 60475. Funeral Monday, November 25, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Steger Memorial Chapel 3045 Chicago Rd Steger IL 60475. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery – Elwood, IL.
