John R. Quinn, age 87, of Dyer, IN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 3, 2023. He is now united in Heaven with his Father John, Mother Marian, and Brother Michael. Loving husband of 65 years of Margaret Quinn, nee Mulhollan. Devoted father of Karen (Kevin) Walsh, Mary (Mark) Thorne, and Maureen (David) Wozniak. Proud grandfather of Sean (Aliny) Walsh, Daniel Walsh, Lindsey (Drew) Wallace, Emma Wozniak, and Abigail Wozniak; great-grandfather of Jack and Theodore Walsh. Dear brother of Marilyn (John) Drake, Sharon (Jim) Albert, and the late Michael (Lois) Quinn. He was a wonderful blessing to his many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents John and Marian Quinn.
John was a true Patriarch and lived a life of dedication to his family. His family was his world, and his Irish wit was legendary. While raising a family, John was a dedicated employee at Walsh & Kelly as a Sales Manager and Corporate Secretary and in his later years as a consultant for Site Services until 2022. He was actively engaged parishioner and volunteer at St. Joseph’s Parish in Dyer. Some of his civic duties included volunteer Dyer Fire Department, Police Commissioner, and Planning Commissioner, 4th degree Knights of Columbus, long time Board Member of the Friendly Sons of Erin and former member of the Dyer Lions Club. In his free time, he loved going to see his grandkids activities, playing golf, and an avid fan of the White Sox and Notre Dame. John was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Visitation Friday, June 9, 2023 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service to be held at 4:00 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Prayer service Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 9:15 a.m. from Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane (Rt.30/Pleasant Springs Ln.) Dyer, IN, to St. Joseph Catholic Church 440 Joliet St. Dyer, IN for a 10:00 a.m. Mass, with Rev. Peter Muha officiating. Interment Calumet Park Cemetery – Merrillville, IN.
