Johnny V. Holmes, age 80, of Eaton, Ohio, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015. Beloved husband of Marla Holmes, nee Deschand. Devoted father of Virgil (Jennifer) Holmes and Valerie (Donald) Hartkoorn. Proud grandfather of Jordan Hartkoorn and Dana (Joe) Zumpf. Dearest brother of Margie Beard, Julie Elliot, Ray (Wynette) Holmes, Pat Pritchard, and Linda (Jack) Cheline. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents: Ivan and Anna Holmes, his daughter Vickie Sue in 1983 and brother Harold (Marilyn) Holmes in 2008. Visitation Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN. Committal service at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel - Calumet City, IL. Johnny was a U.S. Marine Corps and Army Veteran, and a retired carpenter from LTV Steel in East Chicago, IN. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Memorial contributions may be given to Ronald McDonald House Charities, Reid Hospital Hospice Care in Richmond, IN, or You Turn Ministries.
