Jonathan Kraig Hoekstra
December 8, 2025 – December 16, 2025
With overflowing love and gratitude for the time they were given, we share that Jonathan Kraig Hoekstra, the firstborn son of Ethan and Grace Hoekstra, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, after eight precious days of life.
Born on December 8, 2025, Jonathan arrived just one day before his scheduled induction, eager to meet the world. Though his time on earth was heartbreakingly brief, Jonathan filled his parents’ hearts with a love so profound it will last a lifetime. Through him, Ethan and Grace became parents—a bond that will never be broken.
Jonathan spent his days wrapped in love and prayers as he bravely faced a battle far greater than his tiny body could bear. Jonathan went from loving arms of his parents directly into the arms of Jesus, where he now rests in perfect peace, free from pain and surrounded by eternal love.
Jonathan is the beloved and deeply treasured son of Ethan and Grace Hoekstra. He is the cherished grandchild of Kraig and Roberta “Bobbi Jo” Sinclair and Darrin and Dianne Hoekstra, and the precious great-grandchild of Robert and Jackie Spier, Robert Ducheneaux, Eydie Dykstra, Benjamin and Judy Hoekstra, and Bodie Dykstra. He is the dear nephew of Emily Sinclair, Alison Sinclair, Park Sinclair, Caleb Hoekstra, Jesse and Katie Hoekstra, and cousin Eloise Hoekstra. Jonathan was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Linda Thompson, great-grandfather, Ronald Sinclair, great-uncle, David Smith, and his great-aunt, Baby Jackie Spier.
Visitation with family and friends will be held Friday, December 19, 2025, from 3:00–7:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, Indiana.
A funeral service and burial will take place on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Saint Margaret’s Church in Kimball, South Dakota.
Jonathan will forever be carried in the hearts of his family. Though their hearts ache in his absence, their love for him remains boundless and eternal. The family kindly asks that their privacy be respected as they grieve the loss of their precious firstborn son.
