Joseph P. Genova, age 71, of Dyer, IN, formerly of Calumet City, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Beloved husband of Faye Genova nee Gulota. Devoted father of Joe (Ruth) Genova of Dyer, Jerry (Rosemaria) Genova of Mokena, Julie (Dave) Ewers of Flower Mound, TX, and Joanne (Phil) Alonzo of Channahon, IL. Proud grandfather of Ben, Nick, and Hilary Genova, Jessica, Jackie, and Jerry Genova, Jenna, Alyssa, Gianna Ewers, and Alec, Alysha, Ashlin and Austin Alonzo. Dear brother of Marie (Van) Venditti of Schererville, Josephine (Rev. Mark Pavlina) Genova Pavlina of Schererville, Michael (Emily) Genova of Dyer and Vita Genova of South Holland. Many nieces and nephews and godchildren. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph John and Vita (nee Colletti) Genova. Visitation Friday, October 1, 2010 from 2:00 " 9:00 p.m. A Christian celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Smits Funeral Home 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane Dyer, IN 46311 with services conducted by Rev. Mark Pavlina and Rev. Gino Magdos. Interment private. Joe was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to 13 grandchildren. He was a spiritual man and had a deep love for music. He was a talented trumpet player and played for many weddings and civic events in and around the Calumet City region with various musicians. He was a member since 1956 of Local 203 Musicians Union, a piano technician, and a member of the Calumet City VFW Drum and Bugle Corp. Joe was employed by American Steel Co. for 17 years and retired from Conrail after 21 years of dedicated service. He was blessed with many special friends and family and will be sadly missed by all.
